Neuroinflammation in Alzheimer’s disease Current evidence and future directions
Summary
Several trials have investigated the use of anti-amyloid therapies in Alzheimer's disease, but these have all had disappointing results. Neuroinflammation has a pivotal role in neurodegenerative diseases, and it is still unknown if this inflammation has a protective or harmful influence. This article examines evidence from different imaging studies at the idea of a temporal relationship between amyloid deposition in the brain and neuroinflammation. Glia are cells in the brain that provide protection and this review discusses and the further influence of inflammation on glial activation.
