What is this study?
The UK Memory database collects information from people interested in participating in research. It enables researchers at Imperial College London to contact suitable participants for future studies. The aim is to improve access to research and support earlier diagnosis and better treatment of Alzheimer's disease and mild cognitive impairment.
Who are we looking for?
The database is open to:
- Healthy individuals
- People with or without memory problems
- People with medical conditions that may affect memory later in life (e.g., psychiatric, neurodegenerative or neurological conditions)
- Individuals with diagnosed memory problems (e.g., mild cognitive impairment, Alzheimer's disease)
Anyone over the age of 18 can sign up, no diagnosis is required.
What the study involves
After giving consent, researchers will review your information and may contact you about relevant future studies. You will answer health-related questions and complete cognitive (memory) tests, with follow-up assessments every six months. Each session includes a brief capacity check to ensure you are able to complete the tests.
There is no direct personal benefit, but your participation will support future medical research. With your consent, your GP may be contacted if there are notable changes in your results, and you should contact your GP if you have any concerns about your memory.
Memory Tests
The memory tests are conducted online every six months and include clear instructions, videos, and practice rounds. They assess a range of cognitive abilities such as recall, memory, concentration, verbal fluency, executive function, and overall cognition, and take approximately 90 minutes to complete.
Where will this study take place?
The UK Memory database is managed by Imperial College London. Most activities, including cognitive testing, can be completed online from your home. For certain research studies you may be invited to, visits may be required at:

What are the benefits?
There is no direct benefit from participation in the database, but it is intended to facilitate medical research in the future. By joining, you:
- Help advance memory research
- Get access to cutting-edge studies
- Contribute to better treatments for memory conditions
- Stay informed about research progress
- May receive free health assessments in some studies
